The subject of repentance seems to be a touchy subject in the modern Pulpit today; actually it seems to be a touchy subject in many christian circles today.  We hear a ton of messages on God wants you blessed, God wants you healed, God has a blessing for you, God wants you to live your best life now (I’m not against any of those things), etc… But rarely do you hear a good sermon on the subject of repentance.  I believe that this is a big issue that needs to be corrected.  I believe that repentance is the key to revival.  If we want to see revival in our homes, schools, churches and nation we must repent.

The bible puts it this way in 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NASB)

and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and heal their land.

If we want a nation to repent then we must lead the way.  We need to repent in our homes and in our churches before they will.  Revival never has and never will precede repentance. 2 Chronicles 7:14 makes it clear what we must do in order to see Revival (God to heal our land).

  1. “and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways…..”   The first thing we must do is humble ourselves and pray a prayer of repentance.  If we want God to heal our marriage, church, ministry, family, us, our body, etc… (whatever your  land is) we have to turn from our wicked ways. God calls us as a people to repent.  Is your marriage not going like you want it to? humble yourself and repent, is your church not fulfilling their calling as a body? humble yourself and repent, is your family being torn apart? humble yourself and repent.  Whatever you need God to heal, you must take the first step and humble yourself and repent.  God can revive dead things he is the ONLY one that can revive dead things.  Humble yourself and repent and watch God revive the dead things in your life.  (Side note: somethings God will allow to stay dead because he has something else for you).
  2. “…then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin”  God promises us that if we will humble ourselves, seek his face and turn from our wicked ways (repent) that he will hear from heaven, forgive us of our sin.  We need God’s forgiveness, how can true Revival come to us if God can’t get his forgiveness through us? The whole point of Revival is for sinners to repent and come to the saving knowledge of God’s forgiveness through his son Jesus Christ sacrifice on the cross for you and me.
  3. “…and heal their land.”  God promises us if we repent God will heal our land.  God will REVIVE the dead things in our land.  We need REVIVAL but God needs us to REPENT

God needs us to repent.  He can’t heal (revive) our land until we do so.  God is waiting with open arms to forgive us for our sins and to bring healing to our lives, churches and relationships.  No matter what you or I have done there is nothing that can separate us from the love of God! (Romans 8:38-39).  Once we repent we must continue to walk in God’s forgiveness but we must also walk in holiness.

  1. I find that we often confuse repentance with forgivness. God offers forgivness of SIN but repentance is us turning away from SIN. It is essential that we do both. Good thought! Enjoyed the post.
